Preparations are underway for the ordination of Deacon John Malou Beny to the priesthood on Palm Sunday in Holy Cross-Yirol Parish, in the diocese of Rumbek.
Diocesan Administrator Fernando Colombo told Good News Radio that Deacon Malou, 32, will be ordained priest in his birthplace.Fr Colombo said the ordination outside the Cathedral gives an opportunity to the family and faithful of Yirol to celebrate another historic occasion since the building of the beautiful parish church.
He described Deacon Malou as a brilliant student of Theology, calm and resilient, promising to do well as pastor.
Fr Colombo revealed that the Diocese of Rumbek will have to wait three more years before witnessing another ordination.
He said the new priest will be posted to St. Bakhita Minor Seminary in Mapuordit to help the new Irish rector.
Fr Colombo revealed that some parishes requested to have Deacon Malou after his ordination.
Deacon Malou’s ordination brings the total of local priests to four in a vast Diocese that largely depends on missionaries for its pastoral work.
