South Sudan Immigration launched residence permit and South Sudan Origin Card, for expatriates who want to stay and are doing valuable services in the country.

Director General of Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Migration, Augustino Maduot Parek told reporters on Tuesday in Juba that people who spent five years in the country and are contributing to education and humanitarians work can qualify.

He added that residence permit was very important because it gives some rights for foreign nationals who are granted the status.

Mr Maduot explained that the residence permit will allow the government to regulate and facilitate foreigners living in the South Sudan.

He said it will make it easier for the government to know foreign visitors, tourists and differentiate between those engage in business in the country.

South Sudan issues three types of residence permits including temporary residence, 12 months, ordinary residence permit two years and special residence permit five years.
