A 12-year old girl died during surgical operation after Torit Hospital medical personnel disappeared with blood donated by a relative of the deceased.
The unfortunate girl who lost her life in the hands of unprofessional medical officer hailed from Kapoeta East County, in Eastern Equatoria State.An MP Benjamin Lopeyok Kumeya who represents Constituency No.10, Kapoeta East County broke the sad new to the state Assembly on Monday.
Lopeyok said the victim suffered from Kalaazar, leading her to undergo an operation on Friday March, but died shortly after the blood donated by one of her relatives, disappeared from the storage facility.
He said the blood was donated on Thursday 7th March, a day before surgical operation on Friday.
Other health personnel present at the hospital that day told the legislator that the officer responsible for blood storage facility was absent on duty at that time.
Lopeyok said MPs will help the family of the deceased girl to open a case against Torit Hospital and the medical officer in charge of the blood storage who failed to show up during the operation time.
The revelation of the girl’s death provoked the state Member of Assembly prompting them to form a team to investigate the case.
Deputy Chairperson of health Specialized Committee, Samira Louis Lojore heads the investigative committee.
Eastern Equatoria stat Assembly Speaker, Ambrose Ocholimoi described the incident as regrettable and cited a similar case that involved his mother-in-law where she was also left helpless.
