The SPLA-N on Saturday attacked Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) position in Surkum 20 km Northwest of Kurmuk town, inflicting heavy casualties both on civilians and military equipment.

SPLM/A-N Spokesman, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, said in a press release that the fighting lasted for several hours before SPLA-N tactically withdrew.

He added that over 5000 civilians were displaced.

Mr. Ngutulu did not confirm the number of causalities from SPLA-N forces, but, that SPLA-N will continue targeting SAF and militia positions to prevent them from committing crimes against innocent civilians in Blue Nile.

SAF was not available for comment and SPLM-N claim could not be verified.
