The ruling party wants to raise the representation of women and youth in party, government and state institutions.

The SPLM Political Bureau on Friday evening approved the party’s Manifesto to be present to the Liberation Council and to the extraordinary Convention.

Secretary-General Pagan Amum told the press that the discussions to approve the manifesto were very deep and difficult.

He said the Political Bureau proposed to raise the representation of women to 35 percent aiming at a fifty-fifty share between male and female as the final goal.

Mr Amum announced that the Political Bureau is proposing also to introduce a representation of 20 percent for the youth in decision making bodies and at state level.

The Secretary-general explained that the Political Bureau also prepared a number of policies and programmes to implement women and youth’s new representation percentages.

Mr Amum said that on Saturday the Political Bureau should approve the new SPLM Constitution that among other things introduced terms of office.

He said the SPLM Manifesto and Constitution spell out ways to build a free, peaceful and prosperous society based on a multicultural, secular and democratic state for rapid and sustainable development of the country.
