A senior media personality in South Sudan said the Government should commit resources to support indigenous languages for the rapid development of the country.
Gurtong Director Jacob Akol said in a public lecture in Juba on Thursday evening that languages carry cultural values that are important for the nation.He said there is need to commit resources so that the languages are developed and the country can grow faster economically based on local values.
The Director of South Sudan Empowerment Network Paleki Matthew commented on a CRN question about the possibility of states to choose its own language policy.
She said it was good to have national languages at the level of central government rather than in states that could be a form of discrimination.
Both Mr Akol and Ms Matthew made the comments in during a lecture titled Equal Representation on the Constitution at the University of Juba.
