The retired Catholic Bishop of Torit on Wednesday returned to Juba after receiving a UN peace prize award in Geneva-Switzerland.
Bishop Paride Taban told the press that he felt happy because he took good news to the world and brought good news to the people of South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.He said he was happy that God blessed South Sudan to attain independence.
Bishop Taban added that the whole world was very impressed to hear about peace and reconciliation taking place in South Sudan.
The retired bishop said South Sudan had to work hard for peace to avoid escalating violence.
He said he met the ambassador of Sudan at the UN in Geneva and shared peaceful talks with him in order to work hard and restore peace in the two sister countries.
Bishop Taban added that all must work for peace to attain development.
The retired bishop said Kuron Peace Village became a centre for peace and dialogue among different ethnic groups.
He added that different ethnics group that were enemies are now friends because they share grazing land and celebrate together.
The retired bishop was in Geneva to receive the Sergio Vieira de Melli Peace Award.
