The national ministry of agriculture on Thursday launched an action plan approved by the Council of Ministers to respond to the President’s called to free South Sudan from hunger by 2014.
Betty Achan Ogwaro told Bakhita Radio that the agricultural sector was working hard to respond to the Salva Kiir’s call to implement food security for a hunger free South Sudan by next year. She said the president called the ministry to develop quick plans for implementation by zones and not by state.
The minister added that the plans are being implemented by farmers and supported by development partners.
Dr Achan said the ministry had already completed the preparations at the different zones and the plan should start rolling by April.
Vice President Riek Machar Teny, who launched the action plan, said the Government was presenting it to the Donors Conference to be held in Washington DC later in the month.
He said the plan should attract money from foreign investors to make South Sudan the breadbasket of East Africa.

Dr Machar said a new Land Act was passed and now awaits implementation.
