The project to start a football academy in South Sudan is still a plan that needs the okay of the Government and more discussions with the Football Association.
Star Petroleum Ð who finances the academy Ð brought to Juba retired football star Luis Figo to kick off the project.Edward Settimo, Director General in the Ministry of Sport, told the press in Juba on Tuesday that the academy is a plan that needs some decisions from the side of the government and the ministry together with the football body, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the long term plan required the ministry to study some academies built in other countries to put experience and ideas together.
He added that Star Petroleum has yet to discuss with the Government where to build the academy.
Star Petroleum chairperson Farshad Zandi said the company brought Luis Figo to Juba to start football activities in the country.
Mr Zandi added that Star Petroleum will not be focusing only on football, but it also plans to bring a NBA star to train gifted basketball players.
Star Petroleum is an independent oil and gas company based in Luxemburg. It is present in South Sudan since 2006.
