Citizens of South Sudan should approach policy makers at different levels and bring forward their issues and concerns to be considered in the national budgets.

Martin Kweri Ð who works for Cordaid Ð called on the citizens to be keen enough to watch and monitor the implementation of any approved budget.

He was speaking to CRN during a three-day economic planning workshop that started in Juba on Monday.

Mr Kweri called for a transparent and accountable budgeting and budget management process where the grassroots people have a say.

He said they were working to kick out corruption from South Sudan by ensuring participatory budget making, management and tracking processes.

Mr Kweri said the workshop was to improve the technical skills of civil society organizations to engage different stakeholders to make budgets as important tools to benefit all South Sudanese.

He said Cordaid wanted to see effective economic planning that catered for all the needs of the people and that the budget developed was participatory, inclusive and comprehensive to address all the needs of the people of South Sudan.

Mr Kweri said the workshop was expected to discuss effective economic planning in South Sudan, the role of civil society organizations and how they could include the views of the citizens in the national budget.

He said the workshop would also discuss how the civil society organizations could work together with the Government to promote effective economic planning and budgeting.

The workshop, funded by the Joint Donor Team, brought together 28 people from the ten states of South Sudan.
