CABINET APPROVES AGRICULTURAL TRANSFORMATION FUND

The Council of Ministers in its Friday’s ordinary meeting approved the funding of the national efforts for agricultural transformation presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press after the meeting that the government decided that agricultural transformation required especial national efforts.

Dr Marial explained that in the agricultural transformation, farming zones were created to promote commercial farming and improve traditional cultivation.

He said the agricultural transformation project aimed to establish a comprehensive agricultural master plan to cover all sectors of agriculture and related areas towards full food security.

Dr Marial said the Cabinet gave the green light for the immediate construction of the Paluch-Pagak-Ethiopia Road connecting the oilfields with Djibouti.

He said the Ministers for Roads and Bridges, Gier Chuang Aluong, and for Petroleum, Stephen Dhieu Dau, were given the go ahead to finish the construction process in dialogue with the Ethiopian Government.

Dr Marial said the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Kosti Manibe, will lead a delegation to the donors conference in mid March in New York.

He said Minister Manibe was told to coordinate the presentation to be made by the delegation.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit chaired the Council of Ministers.
