The UN has expressed deep concern about the increasing threats to civilians in Jonglei.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator for South Sudan, Toby Lanzer, said in a statement on Thursday that during a recent visit to Akobo and Pibor he met communities living in fear.

He urged the Government to strengthen law and order in the area and bring to court those responsible for committing crimes and putting civilian populations at risk.

Mr Lanzer demanded an end to attacks on humanitarian actors and the confiscation of humanitarian assets and aid.

He urged armed actors to distinguish between civilians and fighters, regardless of their ethnicity or location and respect humanitarian action and delivery of humanitarian aid.
