The ruling party started a week-long preparation for the celebration of Women International Day, on March 8.

SPLM Deputy Secretary General Ann Itto told the press on Friday in Juba that the event under the theme “Contribution of women in the state and nation building” celebrates the women of South Sudan.

Dr Itto said 70 percent of those who voted in the 2010 elections and 52 percent that turned up for the referendum were women and they understand that numbers have power and collective action means change.

She added that during the week-long preparation the ruling party will animate debates and talk shows in the different media houses.

Dr Itto announced a candle lit vigil in honour of all women who made South Sudan a free nation on Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the SPLM Secretariat in Juba with the presence of the party’s top women leadership.
