The mother of the teenage girl who was raped last June in Juba said the court gave seven-years jail sentences for each of the five boys who gang raped and tried to kill her.

The mother, who asked to remain anonymous, told CRN that the boys were only sentenced for the rape case.

The attempted murder accusation was yet to be tried.

She said it was enough that the boys were locked up for seven years.

She added that she had no power to pursue the attempted murder charge.

The girl was gang raped after being taken from a wedding party in June 2012 in Juba.

Some time later, one of the five rapists tried to hit the victim with his car when she was leaving All Saints Cathedral in Juba after Sunday’s service.
