Sudan has affirmed its commitment to the agreements it has signed with South Sudan and pledged to continue honest dealing for reaching solution for all the outstanding issues.

In a statement CRN received on Monday from SUNA, the Sudanese government delegation to the negotiations in Addis Ababa said remarkable progress was achieved in the pastÊ sessions.

The statement said it was agreed that Abyei Administration Area or AAA to be chaired by a representative of South Sudan and a deputy from the Sudan and three heads of Department from South Sudan and two from Sudan.

The statement said the two parties could not reach an agreement on the make-up of the Legislative Council of Abyei.

It said the agreement stipulates that the Council be composed of 20 members it did not specify the ratio of membership of the two countries.

The statement accused South Sudan of insisted that they should have the majority of the Council in the ratio of (12-8) based on a previous arrangement during the interim period.

The statement said the position of Sudan is that the ratio of the membership of the Council should be 10:10 due to the fact that Abyei legally is under the sovereignty of the Sudan until its final status is determined.
