Citizens of Rumbek welcomed the sacking of Eng Chol Tong Mayay as Governor of Lakes State calling it the right decision at the right time.

Good News Radio went to the streets of Rumbek to seek citizens’ views following breaking news about Eng Tong’s sacking announced on South Sudan TV on Monday night.

The first citizen said the removal came at the right time and President Salva Kiir Mayardit did as the Transitional Constitution stated.

He lamented the inability of the deposed Governor to maintain the security in the State that was threatening national security.

Another citizen appreciated the President’s decision stating that the Governor was voted to lead the living, not the dead.

A third man said he had no objection to the President’s decision.

He added that stability in South Sudan was a priority and the President had the right to intervene when it was not maintained.

All interviewees spoke on condition of anonymity.

Good News Radio could not reach Eng Chol for a comment.

Former deputy Governor Mabor Achol Kuer is now the care-taker Governor according to the Presidential decree.

He has 60 days to organize the election of a new Governor for Lakes State.
