UNAMID DELIVERS AID TO NORTH DARFUR DISPLACED

UNAMID, the African Union Ð United Nations Mission in Darfur, delivered more than 44,000 kilograms of urgent humanitarian aid on Saturday.

The aid was delivered by land and air, to thousands displaced people in El Sereif, North Darfur, UNMID bulletin reported.

The people were displaced by the gold war between the Abbala and Beni Hussein tribes over mines in the Jabel Amir area.

OCHA, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UNICEF, the UN Office for Project Services and the UN Refugee Agency provided plastic tarps, sleeping mats, blankets and water purification equipment.

UNAMID provided security escorts to humanitarian workers, enabling them to carry out their duties.

UNAMID Acting chief A•chatou Mindaoudou said the operation marked a significant step forward for UNAMID and its partners.

The gold war between the Abbala and Beni Hussein tribes in the Jabel Amir area, led to a mass displacement of some 70,000 people with more than 100 killed.
