The Commissioner of Central Equatoria Revenue Authority revealed that the state lost a huge percentage of tax money due to the centralization agreement signed between the national government and the states.
Michael Amule Joseph told reporters in Juba that the state revenue collection dropped drastically from 13 million to 3 million pounds per month, Bakhita Radio reported.He added that the transfer of revenue to the states was another headache.
Mr Amule revealed that Central Equatoria collects revenue only from the domestic trade sector.
He said the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the states and national government left the foreign trade sector to the customs authorities.
In May of 2012, the national government signed an agreement with the states ministries of finance to centralize part of revenue collection to deal with the situation created by oil shutdown.
