A group of armed youths raided Mapel Payam of Jur River County in Western Bahr El Ghazal State, killing six people and taking more than 3,000 cattle.

During the dry season, herdsmen from Greater Tonj of Warrap State move to Jur River County and camp there till the rain comes.

Jur River Commissioner, John Arop Apai, told Voice of Hope that there was information about the movement of armed youths from Cueibet County of Lakes State towards Mapel where they arrived on Thursday.

He said the Cueibet youths kidnapped several natives to direct them to the cattle camps.

Mr Arop explained that the youths were heavily armed and they clashed with herdsmen and stole cattle.

The Commissioner added that soldiers tried to confront the raiders and rescue the cattle but they disappeared into the forest.

Mr Arop said there were communications between the authorities in Lakes State and Western Bahr El Ghazal to identify the attackers.
