The minister of Justice tabled a Bill to the National Legislative Assembly on Monday seeking to extend the mandate of the National Constitutional Review Commission for nine months.

MPs were urgently called to receive the Bill and sent back for recess to return to Juba on February 21 to deliberate on the bill.

Minister John Luk Jok told the MPs that though they were going back for recess, they should work hard in order to pass the Bill upon their return for the Transitional Constitution to be amended.

He said the Bill should be passed so that the National Constitutional Review Commission does not operate in a legal vacuum.

The Bill says the mandate of the National Constitutional Review Commission was extended between January 10, 2013 and September 10, 2013.

The National Constitutional Review Commission is required to submit the draft permanent Constitution to President of the Republic.
