The newly appointed UNMISS Force Commander from Ghana took up office on Monday in Juba.
Maj. General Delali Johnson Sakyi said he will approach his responsibilities with great and total commitment to ensure that UNMISS troops support the Republic of South Sudan with professionalism, discipline and good ethics.Maj General Sakyi has more than 34 years of extensive military command and staff experience at both national and international levels.
He served in several UN peacekeeping missions since first joining the United Nations Organization in 1979 in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt.
He has worked in UN missions in Lebanon, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ivory Coast and DR Congo.
Maj Gen Sakyi also served as Commanding Officer for the West African regional force ECOMOG in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
He succeeded Major General Moses Bisong Obi of Nigeria, who completed his assignment on 18 November 2012.
