OFFICIAL URGES TEACHERS TO MASTER TEACHING METHODS

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of General Education and Instruction has urged teachers to master the methods and skills of teaching reading and writing so that children read and write well.

Deng Deng Hoc Yai said teachers needed to understand the implications to read and write and ensure that the teaching of reading and writing are not removed from the reality.

He called on teachers to prepare people for real the world meaningful and some very challenging tasks.

Mr Deng said it was time for South Sudan to embark on a long and arduous journey of literacy to catch up with the rest of the world.

He said the role of teachers was to promote literacy by teaching lower classes and ensuring that children read and write at their lower levels.

Deng was speaking at the opening session of a one-week workshop on skills for teaching literacy in primary schools on Tuesday in Juba organized by South Sudan Teacher Education Programme.

The workshop that was funded by United States Agency for International Development drew together 50 teachers from all the ten state of South Sudan.
