Buyers at Konyo Konyo in Juba welcomed the opening of a cooperative shop at the market because good became cheaper.

Central Equatoria Cooperative and Rural Development minister Michael Tongun Martin Thursday opened the first cooperative shop in Konyo Konyo Market, in Juba, in a bid to bring food prices down and sell local products.

Bakhita Radio visited the shop and recorded views from buyers.

Madelina Paul said she learnt about the shop from neighbours and decided to go and see.

Mrs Paul said she bought tea at four pounds instead of seven pounds in the ordinary market.

She said the reduction was good because she could buy some more items including water with the money she saved.

Alhaj Mohammed Suleiman said he was happy to buy sugar, jam and bathing soap much cheaper than in ordinary shops.

He added that 10 or 20 similar shops in town would bring the cost of living down.

Jamila Mohammed said she was grateful for the cooperative shop because it made a big difference in prices.

Minister Tongun said cooperative shops should sell local goods 30 to 40 percent cheaper.

He promised another ten coop shops for Juba and extend them to all counties of Central Equatoria starting with Terekeka.
