Riot police deployed to Yei during inter-tribal clashes prior to Christmas looted some shops in Kenyi and Lainya payams on their way to Juba.
Lainya County Commissioner Huda Michael Laila, who arrived in Lainya town on Monday morning from Juba, told CRN that the incidents happened on Sunday evening.She said the riot police stole a motorbike in Kenyi and beat one person in Lainya payam.
The County Commissioner explained that the riot police were returning from Yei to Juba and when they arrived in Kenyi they started shooting in the air.
Residents, including shopkeepers, ran for cover and some officers looted the shops.
Ms Michael said after the incident in Kenyi, Lainya was informed but the riot police reached there before any measure was taken because they moved fast.
In Lainya, the police shot in the air and looted some shops.
Ms Michael said she informed the army at 54 and 58 military barracks but they let the riot police pass without stopping them.
She added that she informed the state government but nothing has been done.
The officers arrived in Juba without any detention.
