The County Commissioner of Morobo in Central Equatoria called on refugees from DR Congo to register with the authorities to have their status recognised and receive assistance.

Moses Soro Simon told Radio Easter that 200 refugee are still living in Panyume camp while others live with relatives in Bazi and Kimba in Kilikili Boma.

He said he told the chiefs to register all refugees and keep them in Panyume camp.

The County Commissioner added that refugees who do not register and live with relatives are considered illegal migrants and don’t qualify for help.

Mr Soro said UNHCR, the UN agency for refugees, is assisting the refugees in collaboration with the local Government.

He said the county authorities are ready to give some land for cultivation to the registered refugees to cultivate.

Mr Soro urged other humanitarian organizations to give assistance to the victims of war in Morobo County.

The refugees arrived in Morobo from DR Congo last month.
