A Comboni Missionary was beaten by soldiers in DR Congo for taking the side of pygmy people.

Francesco Laudani was arrested and beaten after he went to the military barracks to enquire about the detention of some pygmies from his parish.

The Congolese Bishops’ Conference wrote on its website that Fr Laudani was arrested on Wednesday.

He had to pay 200 US dollars to be set free.

The Congolese bishops said people in Watsa area Ð where Fr Laudani lives Ð are victims of the violence of the army.

Fr Laudani has been working for years for the pygmies, a population of short people often victim of harassment and prejudice.
