A group of opinion makers said the killing of journalist Isaiah Abraham made citizens to mistrust the Government and called the authorities to answer why he was killed and who murdered him.
The group organized a prayer service in Juba on Friday to honour late Abraham.Ateny Wek Ateny, the headed of organizing committee, said Mr Abraham died for a cause and his blood cemented the foundations of press freedom in South Sudan.
He said his killing has thrown South Sudanese into the abyss of mistrust.
Mr Wek added that late Abraham’s critiques were meant to correct the ills of the system, not threaten it.
Juba Monitor Editor in Chief Alfred Taban said the government is responsible for the protection of all citizens.
He said if any person disappeared or was killed, people had the right to ask the authorities why and who killed that person.
Mr Taban added that opinion makers wanted to know why Mr Abraham was killed.
He underlined that late Abraham wrote many pieces on tribalism and corruption, ills that are affecting South Sudan, but he did not known whether he was killed for that.
Earlier in the week, Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin announced that a number of people were arrested in connection with Mr Abraham’s killing.
