The Troika has strongly urged South Sudan and Sudan to commit to the implementation of the cooperation agreements signed on September 27 and make peaceful coexistence a reality.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and the UK Foreign Secretary William Hague called on Salva Kiir and Omar al Bashir to concretely address the outstanding issues and ensure that their armed forces withdrew from the demilitarized zone.

The statement stressed the importance of fully implementing the agreements without preconditions.

The three officials urged the two leaders to elaborate on the political and economic rights of the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya and move towards an agreement on Abyei’s final status.

They commended the continuing valuable role of the African Union High Implementation Panel and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

They welcome the news of the summit between President Kiir and his Khartoum counterpart al Bashir.
