The Government of South Sudan is urging UNMISS, the UN peacekeeping mission, to protect civilians from Sudanese attacks in border areas of Western and Northern Bahr El Ghazal.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists on Thursday UNMISS has to protect civilians from danger according to Chapter Seven of the UN Charter.

He said the government would like to see UNMISS express concern over the killing of civilians in the border areas.

Dr Marial added that Sudanese bombardments injured many civilians but he declined to give specific figures.
