The UN Secretary-General welcomed the meeting between the leaders of South Sudan and Sudan taking place Friday in Addis Ababa to unblock a range of issues between the two countries.
Ban Ki-moon’s spokesperson said the Secretary-General encouraged both Presidents to address decisively all outstanding issues between Sudan and South Sudan regarding security, border demarcation and the final status of the Abyei Area.
He urged them to activate agreed border security mechanisms, and implement all other agreements signed on 27 September 2012.
Mr Ban said the UN was ready to support Juba and Khartoum in implementing their agreements and to assist in the resolution of all remaining disputes.
