Children said they live in the streets of Rumbek because their families abused or abandoned them.
Lakes State rural development minister Daniel Chol Koknyin met a huge number of street children in Rumbek’s Freedom Square on Thursday. He told Good News Radio that children said their families pushed them to the streets.He said the Government was making arrangements to reunite the street children with their families.
Mr Chol noted that some street children were tortured by business people operating in Rumbek.
He said most children had wounds on their heads and legs.
Mr Chol urged the street children to stay peacefully with one another and avoid stealing other people’s properties.
Lakes State Government constructed a centre for street children in Rumbek, especially for those who lost their parents.
