The President of the Republic has condemned the New Year’s celebratory gunfire in Juba.

Guns burst into fire as the New Year came at midnight, Bakhita Radio reported.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told the congregation at St Theresa’s Cathedral in Kator on Tuesday that he was not happy with the random shooting in Juba.

He said security forces told him they had no idea of what was happening after he asked them who released the guns being shot across Juba.

President Kiir revealed that he was informed that some innocent civilians were wounded with stray bullets in Munuki and Gudele.

He condemned such behaviour as irresponsible.
