The Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio on Tuesday visited St. Bakhita Chapel to celebrate the New Year with the Congolese refugees in Makpandu camp.
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala preached about peace, urging all Christians to renew their faith and reconcile with one another for better relationships among families and neighbours, Anisa Radio reported.He confirmed seven people during the celebration.
Head catechist Mongole Sylvesto told Bishop Hiiboro that 2012 ended in peace because the local people were kind to the refugees.
They also produced enough food.
Mr Mongole added that the refugees were feeling at home, because both the church and the government cared for them.
He said many refugees were suffering from hernia in Makpandu.
Residents welcomed Bishop Hiiboro with songs of joy saying his visit was a privilege of peace, unity and love at the beginning of 2013.
A big number of Congolese refugees who fled from the Lord’s Resistance Army live in Makpandu Camp, in Western Equatoria State.
