Wau community questioned the county’s MPs in the state legislative assembly about the transfer of Wau County headquarters to Baggari, 25 miles away from the capital of Western Bahr El Ghazal.

Former constitutional post holders, chiefs, intellectuals and members of the community met the MPs on Saturday and the lawmakers said that the issue was not discussed in the Assembly, Voice of Hope reported.

Nineteen MPs representing Wau county strongly denied the Government’s statement claiming it passed the memo of transfer through the House.

The State government said the transfer of the county headquarters respected the State Constitution and the 2009 Local Government Act.

It added that the transfer was also a way of implementing the vision of taking the town to the villages.

MP Cirillo Elias Unago explained that the Constitution orders the Government to implement the article of capital transfer according to the interests of the community.

All speakers during the meeting refused strongly to move the headquarters to another place.

After the meeting the community formed committee composed of nine youths and six MPs to meet the government delegates this week to solve the problem.

Saturday’s meeting came after another meeting on Tuesday between youth and a Government delegation after the youth closed the Wau-Baggari road to block the HQ transfer.

In a related development, Governor Rizik Zakaria Hassan issued a statement confirming that he accepted the resignation of Wau County Commissioner John Peter Meskin following his rejection to implement the HQ transfer.
