SPLA-N forces shelled the capital of South Kordofan for the third time this month during the defence minister’s visit to Kadugli.

An eyewitness told Agence France Presse that five shells hit the town while an official delegation from Khartoum was visiting during the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday.

SPLM-North spokesman Arnu Lodi said the rebels shelled army sites inside Kadugli on Friday after SAF attacked their positions in near-by villages with airplanes.

Residents said he shelling started when the defence minister was addressing worshippers during prayers marking Eid al-Adha.

There were no reported casualties.
