More than 500 returnees at Wau Hangar, near Wau, are experiencing critical living conditions due to shortage of food, medicines and security.

Many returnees who arrived in Wau last November could not get a place to build shelters to begin a new life but ended up in the congested Hangar area.

Voice of Hope visited the camp and saw how returnees lived.

The returnees reported inadequate health facilities, lack of food, insecurity as well as inability to send their children to school.

They said they needed plots to be able to build houses and cultivate.

Pastor Peter Lokoyome Lopai, who is a new arrival at Hangar, said the conditions at the camp were critical.

He asked for more assistance from both the government and humanitarian organizations.

The returnees at Hagar are exposed to contagious diseases due to poor ventilation as they are crumpled together in very small spaces.
