A group of journalists from various media outlets on Friday concluded a four-day training workshop on political reporting.

John Baptist Wasswa, Project Officer and part-timer lecturer in Makerere University department of journalism and communication, said his team came to South Sudan to teach journalists about political reporting, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said South Sudan is faced with various challenges and journalists need training to report.

Mr Wasswa added that bridging the gap and building understanding between journalists and the government is the only way to democracy.

Oliver Modi, who chairs the Union of Journalist in South Sudan, said the situation in the country is complex and the government is moving towards democracy.

He said journalists needed to be equipped with the knowledge about the rule of law and transparency in order to play their role in the democratization process.

Mr Modi said the Union is working hard to build the capacity of journalists and plans to extend the training to the rest of the states.
