The Abyei community is supporting the African Union decision to give South Sudan and Sudan six weeks to reach consensus on the Abyei region and disputed border areas or face a binding solution.
Chief Kuol Deng Kuol representing Abyei Chiefs said the AU decision was right.He called on the Abyei people to go back to their areas and rebuild what was destroyed by Sudan in last year’s attack.
Mr Deng was speaking during the opening session of a briefing on Abyei current issues in Juba on Saturday.
He appreciated efforts exerted by South Sudan’s negotiating team headed by Pagan Amum.
AU Peace and Security Council on Wednesday gave South Sudan and Sudan six weeks to reach consensus on the Abyei region and disputed areas.
If the parties fail to reach a consensus, the AU Council will endorse the September 21 proposal as final and binding.
