The UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS on Thursday staretd a healthy environmental initiative to commemorate UN Day in Western Equatoria State.
An UNMISS official in Yambio told Anisa Radio that the world celebrated the day under the theme “One UN One family” to develop a better relationship between the UN, the state government and the community.The official said the major achievements were environmental cleaning in Yambio town and inauguration of new waste water at garbage disposal site in Yambio County.
The new waste water was constructed by UNMISS.
He explained that the main objectives for the UN in South Sudan are to consolidate peace and security, establish conditions for development in the country, and support the community.
UN Day is yearly celebrated in October 24 to show the entire world the achievements and aims of the UN organs.
In Yambio, UNMISS peacekeepers embarked in general cleaning around the open market collecting the garbage.
