The National Standard Bureau has seized almost 9,000 crates of expired beer in three markets of Wau.
The drinks had expired and traders were attempting to transport the crates to the neighbouring states where the Standards Bureau does not have office.Kuol Deng Majak, who directs the Standard Bureau in Wau, told Voice of Hope that local traders bought huge quantities of beer and were unable to sell the drinks due to a fall in demand.
He said the austerity measures affected consumption of beer in Wau.
Mr Deng advised traders to import beer in small quantities.
He called on check point officials to ensure that no expired beer is smuggled to other states.
Mr Deng said the Standard Bureau does not have offices in Awiel and Kwajok and traders try to snick expired goods to those markets.
