The UN Secretary General used his message for UN Day on Wednesday to urge the governments to empower women and the youth in order to face the period of profound turmoil the world is going through.
The UN Secretary General Representative in South Sudan, Hilde Johnson, read Ban Ki-moon’s message that underscores the spread of insecurity and intolerance in the world.Mr Ban said he wanted the UN to keep pace with the challenges to global stability through peace, development, human rights, rule of law, and empowerment of women and youth.
He saluted the huge stride to half extreme poverty since 2000.
Ms Johnson said the UN is in South Sudan to support and stabilize the newest country and support its development and prosperity.
The UN Day celebration included the plantation of trees at the new UN compound on the Juba-Yei Road.
