The Government of South Sudan this evening launched the distribution of 9.3 million primary school textbooks.
The launch was jointly carried out by the Government and UKAID, Bakhita Radio reported.General Education Minister Joseph Ukel Abango told Bakhita Radio that the UK Government printed the 9.3 million primary school textbooks for South Sudan.
He said the printing covers primary school, adult education and teachers’ books.
Mr Ukel said South Sudan was using school books from Sudan and other neighbouring countries.
He announced that his ministry has drafted the third sketch for secondary school textbooks and they are ready for printing.
Mr Ukel said the ministry was writing to partners and donors to fund the printing and distribution of secondary school textbooks.
UK International Development minister, Lynne Featherstone, attended the launch.
The printing and distribution of 9.3 million textbooks should be completed after four months.
The project, funded by UKAID, will provide two million South Sudanese children with new school textbooks following the country’s new national curriculum.
