The first group of 50 secondary and primary teachers from Eastern Equatoria left today for Ethiopia to start a three-year course. The reaming teachers fly on Thursday.
Eastern Equatoria Education minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam said during a send-off party on Sunday in Juba that South Sudan and Ethiopia signed a bilateral agreement on scholarships, Bakhita Radio reported.He added that the 50 teachers will attend a three-year course at a Teachers College in Hawassa, South Ethiopia.
Mr Lopuke assured that the scholarships would benefit the people of South Sudan as a whole.
He said Eastern Equatoria was ready to share some teachers at the end of the course to strengthen education in other states.
Mr Lopuke said Ethiopia offered scholarships to Upper Nile, Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria.
He asked the teachers to complete their studies and return safe to the country.
