A considerable number of youths on Friday staged a protest along the Wau-Baggari highway putting up roadblocks to stop the transfer of Wau County Headquarters to Baggari Payam.
The move came after the Western Bahr El Ghazal government decided to transfer the headquarters of Jur River and Wau counties out of town and appoint a Mayor to administer the city according to the vision of bringing towns to the villages.The youth, carrying sticks and spears, blocked the road between Layola and Natabou, Voice of Hope reported.
One youth appealed to the President of the Republic to intervene.
One protesting women said the crowd took to the roads to show their grievances and demands.
She added that as county residents they are not against country’s policies.
She explained that the protesters were just asking for their constitutional right to be consulted and they were waiting for an official positive response.
