The SPLM-North said it captured Mitan, a strategic position that was held by the Government forces in Dalami County of Nuba Mountains.
SPLA-North spokesperson Arnu Ngattulu Loddi announced the capture via e-mail.He said more than 50 Government troops were killed and dozens wounded in the battle for Mitan.
Mr Ngattulu added that seven SPLA-North fighters were killed and another five wounded.
He stated that SPLA-North forces destroyed two government vehicles: one, carrying soldiers, hit a landmine: the other had a mounted heavy machine gun.
Mr Ngattulu said the rebels seized a heavy gun, 15 Kalashnikov guns and 14 boxes with bullets.
Fighting in Mitan began on Monday.
