Fresh fighting between the army and rebels in Jonglei’s Pibor County since August has displaced over 2,200 people from three villages creating a new humanitarian crisis in the state.
Residents of Gumuruk, Likuangole and Kondako were forced to flee their homes and take refuge in the bush after rebels from David Yau Yau’s forces attacked the army.The UN says insecurity prevented humanitarian actors to reach the displaced people in the bush to assess humanitarian needs and provide assistance.
The South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission registered more than 2,200 people arriving in Pibor from Gumuruk, Kondako and Likuangole.
The displaced are sheltering with host families.
Eight NGOs continue to provide regular humanitarian services and assistance in Pibor town, two of them with international staff presence.
