The national Government earmarked 75 million US Dollars to start asphalting the Nasitu-Nadapal road linking South Sudan with Kenya through Eastern Equatoria.
Eastern Equatoria State minister for Roads and Transport, Charles Lokonoi, told journalists during his Friday press briefing that the tender process stars soon.He said the total cost is over 300 million US Dollars.
Mr Lokonoi says the road asphalt project was undertaken by the national ministry of Roads and Transport with support from the World Bank.
He added that the Ma’di-Opei, Tseretenya- Hiyala and Narus-Raad roads are also to be asphalted with from the African National Bank, to link Uganda to Djibouti.
Mr Lokonoi explained that the resumption of oil production allowed the project to go ahead together with the need for Uganda to have an outlet to the Indian Ocean through South Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
Eastern Equatoria Roads minister said the decision to tarmac the roads came out after a number of meetings at the national ministry of Roads and Transport in Juba.
