CABINET ENDORSES NGOS REGULATIONS

The national Council of Ministers has approved the regulation of non-governmental organizations operating in South Sudan.

Deputy Government spokesperson Atem Yak Atem told the press on Friday that the cabinet approved the policy framework presented by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to regulate NGOs, national and international, operating in the country.

He said expat NGO workers have to register with the Ministry of Interior and contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from time to time.

International NGOs were called to work hand in hand with national organizations and contract qualified South Sudanese staff.

Mr Atem said foreign NGOs should operate within the laws of the country and all over the ten states answering local needs.

He said the Cabinet also agreed that foreign NGOs should work with the national Ministry of Public Service in terms of employment.

Foreign NGOs have to present their budgets n to the Ministry of Finance so that the government knows their financial statements.

Mr Atem said the Government is regulating the activities of foreign NGOs operating in South Sudan because before independence they were regulated by Khartoum.
