WAU HOLDS FOOD FAIR

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Irrigation in Western Bahr El Ghazal state organized an agricultural trade fair under the theme “Agricultural cooperatives key to feeding South Sudan.”

Farmers from Raja, River Jur and Wau on Tuesday morning started displaying their best products at Wau theatre as they celebrated International Food Day, Voice of Hope reported.

National Minister of Agriculture Betty Achan Ugwaro hailed Western Bahr El Ghazal farmers for their commitments to implement the government policies and boost agriculture.

She called on farmers to be self sufficient and increase the land they cultivate using improved farming methods in order to boost other industries.

Ms Achan cautioned citizens demanding free food saying that the government does not give food but supports the farmers to improve productivity.

She revealed that her ministry acquired tractors that will be distributed to the states on a loan basis to assist capable farmers increase food production.

The governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal state Rizik Zachariah Hassan promised better security to enable farmers to cultivate freely.

The Agricultural trade fair lasted for three days.

It enabled farmers to share their experiences and skills.

Three best farmers from each County were selected to represent Western Bahr El Ghazal in the national agriculture show in Juba next month.
