Lakes State Government announced key infrastructure improvements in order to host the 2013 Independence Day national celebrations.

State minister of Physical Infrastructure Adak Costa Mapour revealed that the airport and roads will be upgraded and a football stadium constructed.

Ms Adak appealed to the Lakes state community to use the national Independence Day celebration in Rumbek to display their best cultural traditions.

She urged the residents of Lakes state to decide together what they want to show to visitors while hosting the celebration.

Ms Mapour clarified that the national celebration will take place at the Rumbek Central County, the headquarters of the state, but other counties and payams are free to organize their own festivities.

Earlier it was announced that the President’s Office will provide the money to asphalt Rumbek airstrip, some roads and pay other expenses related to the national Independence Day celebrations.
